Natural Rattan Floor Tatami Mat (Twin)

This mat is thick and sturdy, feeling like it can withstand a good amount of wear & tear, yet is also surprisingly comfortable, having the quality of a soft yoga mat when walking across it or sitting on it (which doesn’t hurt to do for extended periods). The surface is essentially waterproof or at the least water-wicking which means it’s super easy to clean and means it’s easy to keep free of odor. The rigidity of it allows it to provide ample support, and the various panels that can all fold into differing shapes if you choose to do so instead of just laying it flat and allows you to change it up into different things (for example if folded into a triangular shape with the fourth panel on the floor it makes an excellent seat with a backrest which is incredibly supportive and comfortable. As a floor mat it looks great, the colors going well with any other room colors and being toned-down enough (along with a clam design pattern) that it would look great in any room. It is large, larger than I anticipated) if you choose to get the mat with 4 panels, so make sure you have enough room for the size of it. But again the folding design quality of the mat does allow for adjustments if need be, though it’s a shame to not utilize all of this mat whenever possible given how extremely well the craftsmanship is and how good it looks.

This natural rattan tatami mat is great! It is much better for the back than a traditional mattress, keeping a firm surface, but a futon mattress can also be added to it for additional comfort. This one seems like it will not get mold like some of the ones are susceptible to that aren't made of rattan. There is an odor upon opening but it does dissipate after a few days if left to air out. I like that is four fold instead of three. Easy to fold and put away to have a clear floor during the day. I wasn't sure what to expect with the KITBRHOME natural rattan tatami mat, but it has turned out to be one of my favorite and much-needed Vine review items. I've been sleeping on the floor for the past few months because I suspect my sleep issues are partly related to overly soft western-style mattresses (took 45 years to figure that out). It took some getting used to, but I now wake up feeling more refreshed and actually have a harder time sleeping in a regular bed. This tatami mat has been the perfect upgrade over sleeping directly on the floor.The biggest thing to know is that it has a noticeable odor when first unpacked. The instructions recommend letting it air out for at least 2 to 3 hours before using it, and I would definitely follow that advice. I’d actually go further and say to let it air out for a couple of days. I'm not sure if the smell comes from the adhesive, the backing, or another material, but it faded with time. It is also heavier than I expected, at around 14 pounds, though it's still easy enough to carry and move. Because of the fill and backing, I wouldn’t call this a classic Japanese rattan, but if you are coming from sleeping on mattresses, this is a good bridge towards one.The handwoven rattan surface looks great, and the mat has just enough hard cotton fill to make it more comfortable than a bare floor while still staying quite firm. The non-slip backing does an excellent job of keeping it in place, and it works just as well for working out, yoga, stretching, or sitting as it does for sleeping. When I'm finished with it, it folds into four sections, and the detachable loops keep it securely closed for storage or transport.At around $90, I think the value is excellent. Many similar rattan mats cost considerably more, and I haven't found anything about this one that makes it feel like a budget or cheap version. If you're interested in floor sleeping, want a base for a shiki futon, or just need a firm, portable mat for yoga or relaxing, I think this is an easy recommendation.

Rattan Floor Mat is good for workouts and resting. Like the four fold to easily store mat. Perfect thickness to be off the floor. Usually put a towel on the rattan to reduced sliding.
