Not like the pictures

I wanted to like this item more than I do but honestly the design of the bowl just isn’t there. In the pictures it looks like it is handmade and asymmetrical which is why I chose this one but when opening it up it is very symmetrical. I feel it is not wide enough to get a proper zig zag motion when whisking my matcha which is what gives it the creamy consistency I’m aiming for. Overall, I had high hopes for this set because of the pictures shown but I was disappointed.

Great starter Matcha setGreat starter Matcha set

The only thing I love more than tea is tea done right. This set worked well. I am not a Matcha expert. As you can see from the final pic, I have room to improve. But the issue is me, not this set.It arrived very well packaged. And this was good as Amazon had stuffed it into a too small box. The package was slightly crushed. But the contents were in excellent shape. The key part missing from the set is the Matcha tea powder. I got Matcha Konomi Arika Matcha powder. Matchas seem to be divided between flavoring (e.g. baking) matcha and drinking matcha. Be sure to get the drinking kind. The included instructions were clear. I followed them. Read both sides of the card! Soaking the chasen is an important first step. Two bamboo scoops of powder gave me 2 g. Sifted it through the sifter. Added the 60 g of warm water and whisked. This is where the set started to shine. The tea easily dissolved with no lumps. Added the 250 g of water at 175F, Followed the whisking instructions. The final mix was for two minutes. The bowl was quite full at that point. I was impressed tthat the whisking didn't spill any tea. Developed a decent foam. I put the glass onto a white paper towel and poured. There were NO DRIPS. FInally, enjoyed the tea.Making matcha tea requires some effort. Having a set that looks nice and works well will add to the enjoyment. My only complaint would be with their marketing department. It is a beautiful rustic orange brown. They called it "cheese-colored". I do not know if the bowl is dishwasher safe as I will always wash it by hand.I am looking forward to improving my matcha technique. This set invites taking time-out from the chaos of the day and focusing on tea. That part of tea I understand.
