I use this Japanese tatami mat regularly and have been happy with it overall. It has a natural straw scent, but I think that’s part of its charm and authentic appeal. The mat is extremely firm, so I recommend placing a soft futon mattress or cushion on top—even if you prefer a firmer sleeping surface. It’s also ideal for creating a comfortable place to sit, relax, or play without being directly on hardwood or concrete flooring.Overall, I really like this tatami mat and find it very useful. I just wish it were a little more affordable.
Great mat just firm enough but not too firm with great organic materials. Folds in perfectly and is actually bigger than a regular yoga mat which makes it perfect for sleeping
The mat unfolds and folds pretty easily. It has some bulk and weight to it from both the general size and thickness (not something to take on the go), but it's still manageable for me to move as needed. The surface has a little bit of texture that gives some traction while still being smooth enough to not rough up skin. I'm not sure I'd call grass scent relaxing, but especially after the mat has had some air exposure, the natural scent is very mild and tolerable.
So comfortable and worth the price.
The quality of this Tatami Mat is amazing. Even better than what I expected. If you're look for a good tatami mat, this is the one to get.
Foldable Tatami mat is solid in construction and excels in craftsmanship. Even the carry bag is well designed to zip the whole mat in neatly for storage.I don't do Yoga or deep meditation, but I did power naps and light exercises on a wornout padded vinyl mat until I found this nice solid rush grass Tatami mat. However, I do have to warn you it's nothing comfortable about it at first! Especially if you're used to sleeping on a soft mattress all your life. My mattress is a semi-firm one, and the first 20-30 minutes on the Tatami mat was like torture, to say the least! The only solace was the distinctive rush grass smell. My advice for the first timer is to make sure you're not allergic to any kind of grass or grass products, and get yourself a knee pillow and a small thin pillow as I showed in my picture as buffers to the pressure points on your knees and hip bone until you're used to it (if you're a side-sleeper). And mind you: inside the mat is tough jute fiber, not memory foam, so it retains its shape by not yielding and being non-resilient.
